Demur US is a space for critique, frustration, dissent, and uncomfortable conversations about the U.S. political system. Strong opinions are expected. Disagreement is encouraged. Abuse, threats, and harm are not.

This Code of Conduct explains the expectations for anyone participating on Demur US.

Core Principles

• Free expression matters — including anger, satire, and harsh criticism

• People matter — harm and intimidation are not tolerated

• Ideas are fair game — individuals are not targets for abuse

• Power should be challenged — not used to silence others

Expected Behavior

Participants on Demur US are expected to:

• Speak honestly and critically

• Challenge ideas, institutions, and public figures

• Accept disagreement without attempting to silence others

• Take responsibility for their own words and actions

• Respect the boundaries defined in this Code

You do not need to be polite. You do need to be lawful.

Prohibited Behavior

The following behaviors are not allowed and may result in moderation or removal:

• Threats of physical harm

• Encouraging or glorifying violence

• Calls for real-world attacks or destruction

🚫 Harassment & Intimidation

• Targeted harassment of private individuals

• Repeated personal attacks intended to intimidate

• Stalking or coercion

• Doxxing or sharing private personal information

🚫 Hate & Dehumanization

• Hate speech targeting protected groups

• Slurs or language intended to dehumanize

• Calls for exclusion or harm based on identity

🚫 Platform Abuse

• Spam or flooding

• Impersonation

• Ban evasion

• Automated or bot posting

• Attempts to bypass moderation systems

Public Figures vs Private Individuals

• Public figures and institutions are subject to broad, harsh, and aggressive criticism.

• Private individuals are protected from targeted abuse, threats, or exposure.

Criticism should target power, not personal vulnerability.

Moderation & Enforcement

Demur US moderation is conducted by humans.

We may:

• Remove content

• Issue warnings

• Limit posting privileges

• Suspend or permanently ban accounts

Moderation decisions are final and may be made without explanation.

False or malicious reporting may itself result in action.

Access to Demur US is a privilege, not a right.

We reserve the right to restrict or remove content or users to protect:

• Community safety
