  • California Forever
    This affects the entire country.

(Bill Glahn) I’ve been fascinated by this story since stumbling upon it a few years ago. From SFGate,

A new Bay Area city backed by a secretive group of billionaires will be built “non-stop” for 40 years, the project’s CEO said in a news release Wednesday. The announcement further reveals the long-term commitment of California Forever’s backers to creating a new city of 400,000 people, even after polling overwhelmingly indicated locals weren’t interested in the idea.

Wasn’t this a plot device in one of those Roger Moore-era James Bond movies?

Building a brand-new city in California in 2026 would seem to be the ultimate triumph of hope over experience.

Some backstory on that 65,000 acre plot of land,

After the purchases became public, the group, under the name California Forever, announced it planned to build a new city that could accommodate up to 400,000 people. Solano County currently has about 455,000 residents.

It’s like the story behind central Florida’s The Villages, but with tech bros instead of old people.

I wish them all the luck,

In an attempt to hurry the project along, California Forever launched a petition to urge politicians to “streamline permitting” so construction can begin this year. As of Wednesday afternoon, the petition is approaching 400 signatures.

    400. I guess you have to start somewhere.

  • Happy Anniversary!
    How is this acceptable?

(John Hinderaker) Yesterday was the 9th anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration for his first term. That means it was also the anniversary of perhaps the most famous liberal cri de cœur ever–a moment that lives on in memes:

Trump’s inauguration was for most a happy occasion, but not many remember the violent reaction of the Democratic Party. It was then, and remains today, an underreported story. This is what it looked like:

I would hazard a guess that the Democrats’ riot nine years ago did something like 10,000 times the damage of the January 6 riot that they love to denounce.

  • Talarico leads Crockett in Texas Senate primary, according to new poll
    This is performative politics again.

James Talarico has leapt ahead in the Texas Senate Democratic primary with a 9-point lead over Rep. Jasmine Crockett, according to new polling from Emerson College released Thursday.

The data shows Talarico, a state representative from Austin, leading the Dallas Congress member by 47 percent to 38 percent ahead of their March 3 primary.

When Crockett jumped into the race in December, her national prominence and fundraising strength had some expecting her to take the lead in the primary. But Talarico has poured money into his campaign and built a large online following.

On the GOP side, the poll shows a tight race: Attorney General Ken Paxton leads Sen. John Cornyn by 1 point, at 27 to 26 percent, with Rep. Wesley Hunt sitting at 16 percent support. The race is widely expected to head to a May 26 runoff since no candidate is close to 50 percent support, which would extend the brutal GOP primary.

Democrats have long pined for winning statewide in Texas yet repeatedly fallen short. The party believes it can ride an anticipated electoral wave fueled by opposition to Trump to finally achieve that goal. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told POLITICO earlier this week that he views Texas as a “very possible” pickup opportunity but didn’t list it among the party’s top four offensive opportunities.

There’s a stark racial split between Talarico's and Crockett's blocs of support. Talarico brings in majority support from Hispanic and white voters, while the large majority of Black voters back Crockett, according to the poll’s findings. Men support Talarico 52 percent to 30 percent, while women are evenly divided between the two, at 44 and 43 percent respectively.

Many Republican voters remain outraged at Cornyn for supporting a bipartisan gun control bill during the Biden administration and have threatened to vote him out of office as punishment. Paxton, Texas’ top attorney for a decade, has strong support from the MAGA base, despite facing multiple state and federal investigations.

Democrats are hoping that Paxton will win the GOP primary, believing his political baggage would turn off voters in the general election. The poll shows both Talarico and Crockett tied with Paxton at 46 percent in a hypothetical matchup. Cornyn would fare better: He would lead Talarico 47 to 44 percent, and Crockett 48 to 43 percent.

The economy stands as the top issue for Texas voters, followed by immigration and threats to democracy.

  • Mounting controversies, midterm fears strain Senate GOP’s relations with Trump
Am I the only one tired of this?

President Trump’s slumping job approval numbers and the public controversies swirling around his second term in office are putting a strain on his relationship with GOP senators, who are looking for ways to distance themselves from the president heading into the November midterms.
One Republican senator who requested anonymity to comment on GOP senators’ relationships with Trump said it’s difficult to work with the president because he views any substantive policy disagreement as a personal affront.
“He can’t handle any level of what he considers to be personal criticism,” the lawmaker said, referring to the president.
“You have people who don’t like the policy and feel like they have to stand up, but the president makes it so personal they feel like they have nowhere else to go,” the senator added.
The senator said when GOP lawmakers break with Trump, he has a tendency to lash out at them personally without addressing their substantive points of concern.
Vin Weber, a GOP strategist, said Republicans on Capitol Hill are feeling increasingly nervous about Trump’s unpredictability and not knowing what his endgame is on several major issues, especially in the area of foreign policy.
“Trump’s style is to keep people guessing, and that’s worked very well for him,” he said. “But what you’re seeing with Republicans is increasing anxiety about what the endgame is in all of these situations.
“As we get into an election year in which the normal indicators point to a big loss for Republicans, Republicans are getting very queasy about almost everything.”
Republican senators privately acknowledge they are concerned about Trump’s poll numbers, especially on the issue of the economy, which fueled a strong public backlash to former President Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic candidates in the 2024 election.
The article says the main issues Senate Republicans have with Trump is over invading Greenland, the DOJ investigation into Jerome Powell, invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota, and capping credit card fees. On which issues should Senate Republicans break with Trump to improve their standing in time for the 2026 midterms? Which Senators are most likely to burn Trump? And what will the consequences of that be?

  • Anonymous letter to California GOP chapter calls for war on ICE, urges agents be sent 'home in a body bag'
    Every delay has consequences.

A letter delivered to a Republican Party chapter in Northern California called for an all-out war against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, including the use of homemade explosives to send them "home in a body bag."
The 12-page letter, titled "A Real American Response to Foreign Terrorist Invasions," was sent to the Sonoma County Republican Party. The lengthy document mocks ICE agents for "living out their ‘Call of Duty’ fantasy army roles, only with real assault weapons."
No name or return address was listed, and there was no mention of Sonoma County in the document, the local GOP said.
NEW JERSEY TWINS CHARGED IN THREATS TO KILL DHS OFFICIAL, ‘SHOOT ICE ON SIGHT’
"NOTE: No official of any party had anything to do with the composing or distributing of this document; it is strictly a private ‘patriotic effort,’ like Donald Trump’s January 6th Washington, D.C., insurgents," the letter states on page seven.
The letter’s opening line mentions the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis earlier this month. The Department of Homeland Security said Good was trying to ram her vehicle into an ICE agent when he opened fire in self-defense.
"It is clear that every private citizen’s life, immigrant or not, is at risk of annihilation by these low-IQ, trigger-happy domestic terrorists, with no restraints from their commanders in the field. NO ONE IS SAFE NOW," the letter states.
The sender also accused ICE of inflicting a "real foreign invasion–style war" on unarmed men, women and children.
WHITE HOUSE BLAMES DEMOCRATS FOR ICE VIOLENCE AS MINNEAPOLIS ERUPTS, INSURRECTION ACT THREAT LOOMS
"They now need to feel real war, just as any foreign invading army would," the letter said, condemning Republican congressional lawmakers for backing the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
The letter then went on to urge violence against ICE personnel.
"Since ICE-DHS make so light of our innocent citizens’ lives, then it is time to show ICE how light and worthless their lives are," the letter said, calling those who support the agents "fair game."
"ICE agents and their backers need to become the targets," the letter continued. "IED’d, run over with vehicles, shot at by snipers, sprayed with toxic chemicals."
ANTI-ICE THREAT SPRAY-PAINTED ON VEHICLE BELIEVED TO BE USED BY FEDERAL OFFICERS DURING MINNEAPOLIS UNREST
Several Trump administration officials are also mentioned, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller and Rep. …

    How is this acceptable?

JUST SO WE ARE CLEAR. Our president has gone to war illegally invading a foreign nation and is now threatening war over annexing another sovereign territory because he is a fragile ego insecure little baby in a senile geriatric body who has big feelings about not getting the peace prize.
"OH you think Machado is bringing peace to Venezuela, I'll show you how to bring peace to Venezuela"... invades foreign nation and abducts leader.
"Hey Norway, no peace prize? Well how about fuck you and your entire continent"... threatens to annex Greenland.
Meanwhile Stephen 'Russian Asset' Miller is grinning ear to ear at how pathetically gullible this fool is.

  • Air Force One glitch revives replacement push as White House says it 'proves Trump was right again'
    What's the administration thinking here?

Air Force One experiencing minor mechanical issues as President Donald Trump began his trip to Davos, Switzerland, Tuesday evening proved his point that the U.S. needs to update its presidential plane, the White House told Fox News Digital.
"The minor mechanical issue proves that President Trump was right again," White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told Fox News Digital.
"The new Air Force One will be a welcome donation to the United States Air Force, not just for the President, but for the entire Air Force One crew," she added.
The Department of Defense in May 2025 formally accepted a 747 jetliner from Qatar to serve as a new Air Force One, which could serve as a replacement for the two current Air Force Ones.
TRUMP UNLOADS ON BIDEN POLICIES FROM DAVOS, WARNS EUROPE TO DROP THE OLD PLAYBOOK
The new jet will be set to take to the skies in the summer of 2026, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, following the Pentagon retrofitting the jet and combing through it for security and spying devices.
Both Democrats and Republicans criticized Trump after he announced the Department of Defense planned to accept the jumbo jet from the government of Qatar in May 2025, arguing the gift is riddled with both espionage concerns and constitutional questions.
"The Air Force remains committed to expediting delivery of the VC-25 bridge aircraft in support of the Presidential airlift mission, with an anticipated delivery no later than summer 2026," an Air Force spokesperson told the outlet.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House Thursday for additional comment on the matter.
TRUMP’S ‘SMALL ASK’ FOR GREENLAND WOULD BE THE REAL ESTATE DEAL OF A LIFETIME
Air Force One experienced a "minor electrical issue" after takeoff at 10:20 p.m. and returned "out of an abundance of caution," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday evening.
Reporters on the flight said the lights in the cabin went out before the plane returned to Maryland around 45 minutes into the trip.
Leavitt joked aboard the plane that a Qatari jet sounded "much better" at the moment, Fox News Digital previously reported.
Trump recently left Davos, Switzerland, after attending the World Economic Forum, which attracted foreign government leaders, celebrities and business titans to discuss the world's economy. Trump's trip came as he pressures European nations to ink a deal that would hand control of Greenland to the United States from the Kingdom of Denmark.

  • Law Students Circulate Petition to Ban ICE From Job Fair

Over 1,000 students, alumni, and members of campus groups at Georgetown and George Washington University signed a petition to block the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement from participating in a law school job fair.

“ICE is a fascist organization, tasked with carrying out ethnic cleansing, family separation, and extreme brutality and violence,” states a letter to the deans of the two universities’ law schools.

Georgetown and George Washington University are hosting the Public Sector Recruiting Program on Friday, a virtual career fair for law students interested in public sector jobs, The Hoya, Georgetown University’s oldest student-run paper, reports.

The petition claims that ICE is “violating the human rights of immigrant communities and obfuscating the fact that the United States is a country stolen from Indigenous communities and built by enslaving Black people.”

The law schools did not honor the request. Representatives of the two agencies were still permitted to attend the career fair, according to The Georgetown Voice, another student-run newspaper.

As a result of ICE and DHS participating in the job fair, multiple groups, including the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center, chose not to participate in the career fair, The Georgetown Voice reports.

The push to block the agencies came as the Trump administration continues large-scale immigration enforcement operations in cities across the U.S., despite protests and increased threats against immigration officials.

Since President Donald Trump returned to the White House just over a year ago, ICE agents are facing a 1,300% increase in assaults and an 8,000% increase in death threats, according to the Homeland Security Department.

Minneapolis has become a flashpoint for anti-ICE protests following an ICE-involved shooting on Jan. 7 that left 37-year-old Renee Good dead.

Good, according to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon against the ICE agent. Some eyewitnesses and Democrat officials disputed that account, saying Good attempted to drive away from agents.

As recently as Friday morning, protesters gathered outside a federal building in Minneapolis where Greg Bovino, U.S. Border Patrol commander, and Marcos Charles, ICE executive assistant director of enforcement and removal operations, held a press conference to discuss immigration enforcement operations in the city.

“They’re trying to … impede us from getting out of the building and going to do our mission,” Charles said. “I will tell you right now, they’re going to fail, because no matter what they put up in front of us, we are here to do a job to protect this community, to protect Minnesotans, and to keep the criminal legal aliens off the street.”
