We stand on guard for thee
This affects the entire country.

(Bill Glahn) A confusing headline from the U.K. Daily Mail,

‘Scholar of the far right’ complains that move from US to Canada to flee Trump has backfired horribly.

I gather from the story itself that our gal is not “far-right” herself, but merely studies the subject, academically. Based on the story, I would guess that her personal politics fall somewhere on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Fleeing Trump’s dystopian America, she decamped to the north with the intent of resettling in Vancouver, B.C.

Then the problems began, The Daily Mail reports,

Nope Brigade is an academic researcher who studies conservative and right-wing ideologies, and recently ‘fled’ from the current Trump administration to Vancouver – one of the world’s priciest cities.

I looked her up, and assuming this is really her, she asserts,

I study the far right as a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology with a focus on Christian nationalism. My main areas of focus are rural social movements, militias, and how religion intersects with politics. I also love telling people about important sociological concepts. Overall, my goal is to inform, liberate and inspire activism.

Our refugee found the situation less than welcoming north of the border,

For those who don’t know, the housing crisis here is way worse than the US. I lived in LA for six years and I have not faced rent as bad as here.

It would get worse,

Especially when you are shut out of the healthcare system and can’t access any of the resources that Canadians have access to.

And that’s understandable, I’m not a citizen of the country, but it is making the financial situation dire.

The Daily Mail notes,

Most visitor visas allow stays of up to six months, and work permits are only granted to those with a temporary resident permit valid for six months or longer, according to the Government of Canada.

The real story that the Daily Mail appears to be missing here is that they’ve discovered a western country that dares to enforce its immigration laws.

Ironically, in America, every immigrant (legal or otherwise) has full access to our healthcare system, often at no cost.

As for Ms. Brigade, as a Ph.D. candidate, she should have some familiarity with how to work the Google machine and should have discovered these facts before trekking north.

But I wish Ms. Brigade the best of luck in all of her future endeavors.
