What are your thoughts on the Voter ID debate?

I'm curious to hear people's stance on the Voter ID issue.
In my home town, the gov and various nonprofits provide pathways to help individuals secure important documents like SS cards, birth certificates, and photo IDs. If your name is different than what is on your birth certificate, than you should have a record of that. Is there something in the SAVE act that is particularly devious?
