Duffy says ground stops at DC airports over after fixing ‘overheated’ circuit board
This is performative politics again.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Friday evening that ground stops at all major Washington, D.C.-area airports have been lifted, explaining that an “equipment outage” revealed in the afternoon has been resolved.

Baltimore-Washington International, Reagan National, Dulles, and Richmond international airports were all issued ground stops hours before Duffy said the matter was addressed shortly before 9 p.m.

The temporary closure was due to a “strong odor” at Potomac TRACON that is affecting some air traffic controllers, the FAA told the Washington Examiner. Duffy said around 6 p.m. that the FAA was working to address the problem that had halted operations at the airports.

Potomac TRACON, a federal aviation facility, is in nearby Warrenton, Virginia.

AIRPORT SECURITY STRAINS AND TSA LINES GROW AS CONGRESS SHOWS LITTLE URGENCY TO END DHS SHUTDOWN

In his latest update announcing that the ground stop was over, Duffy said the odor was “traced to a circuit board that overheated, and it was replaced.”

He added that operations are resuming after firefighters confirmed there was no danger to air traffic controllers.
