  • Xi’s Message to Trump on Taiwan
This feels like a quiet policy shift.

China’s Xi Jinping warned President Donald Trump to use “extreme caution” regarding arms sales to Taiwan, in a phone call between the two leaders.

Taiwan was one of more than half a dozen topics Trump and Xi discussed during a “long and thorough” call Wednesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The two leaders discussed the war between Russia and Ukraine, Iran, and China’s purchases of U.S. exports, but Taiwan was central to the conversation, the New York Times reports.

Beijing claims it must safeguard its territory, and considers Taiwan part of that territory, according to reporting from the South China Morning Post.

In December, the Trump administration announced an $11.1 billion weapons sale to Taiwan, the largest arms agreement between the U.S. and Taiwan to date.

The deal was announced as China continues to claim sovereignty over the island, but Taiwan operates as a democracy separate from the Chinese Communist Party.

During Wednesday’s call, Xi reportedly told Trump that Taiwan is the “the most important issue in China-U.S. relations,” adding that China “will never allow Taiwan to be separated from China,” according to the Times.

Following the call, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said it welcomes “efforts to ensure regional stability and shore up the status quo amid increasing [People’s Republic of China] pressure.”

With the U.S. and “like-minded partners, we remain dedicated to a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific,” Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry wrote on X.

We welcome efforts to ensure regional stability & shore up the status quo amid increasing PRC pressure. Taiwan?? values US?? commitments under the #TRA & #SixAssurances. Together with the US & like-minded partners, we remain dedicated to a free, open & prosperous Indo-Pacific.
    — ??? Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC (Taiwan) ?? (@MOFA_Taiwan) February 5, 2026

Trump and Xi last spoke in November, following an in-person meeting in October in South Korea. At that meeting, they reached their current trade agreement, including China resuming purchases of U.S. soybeans.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet again in April when Trump visits China.

“The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my Presidency having to do with President Xi, and the People’s Republic of China!”

  • House Oversight GOP rejects Hillary Clinton demand for public Epstein hearing: 'No one is buying their claims'
    Same show, different day.

The House Oversight Committee is rejecting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's demand for a public hearing after she and ex-President Bill Clinton agreed to being deposed in the panel's Jeffrey Epstein probe.
"The Clintons are going to Clinton and try to spin the facts since no one is buying their claims. The only ones moving the goalposts are, as usual, the Clintons and their attorneys. The Clintons were issued bipartisan subpoenas for depositions—not a hearing," a spokeswoman for the committee's GOP majority told Fox News Digital.
"Republicans and Democrats on the Oversight Committee voted to recommend the House hold the Clintons in contempt of Congress for defying duly issued subpoenas for six months. In the wake of facing contempt of Congress proceedings, the Clintons’ attorney finally agreed to filmed, transcribed depositions on February 26 and 27.  These depositions are in accordance with House and Committee rules."
The spokeswoman said that all witnesses who appear in front of the committee "are being treated fairly and consistently."
BILL AND HILLARY CLINTON FACED 'SURPRISE' FROM DEMOCRATS CALLING FOR EPSTEIN TESTIMONY, SAYS REP COMER
The Clintons were two of 10 people subpoenaed for testimony before the committee as it probes the federal government's handling of Epstein's case. So far just two people subpoenaed by the committee, former Attorney General Bill Barr and ex-Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, have appeared in person.
The former president and former Secretary of State both agreed to terms for testimony set by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., after months of back-and-forth.
Their attorneys sent Comer an email hours before the House Rules Committee, the final gatekeeper before most bills see a chamber-wide vote, was set to advance a pair of contempt of Congress resolutions against the former first couple.
Hillary Clinton posted on X on Thursday morning, "For six months, we engaged Republicans on the Oversight Committee in good faith. We told them what we know, under oath. They ignored all of it. They moved the goalposts and turned accountability into an exercise in distraction."
"So let’s stop the games. If you want this fight…let’s have it—in public. You love to talk about transparency. There’s nothing more transparent than a public hearing, cameras on. We will be there," Clinton wrote.
Comer announced on Wednesday that the former first lady will sit for a closed-door transcribed interview on Feb. 26, and the former president will appear on Feb. 27 under the same terms. Both interviews will be filmed, Comer said …

  • Dem rising star who called Trump ‘con man’ spent over $120k on luxury hotels, transportation and security
    This is performative politics again.

FIRST ON FOX: Progressive rising star Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Texas, spent over $120,000 on luxury hotels, transportation and private security services over the course of 2025.
Federal Election Commission filings for Crockett, who has referred to President Donald Trump as a "slick con man" only concerned about pleasing the rich, show she sank just over $124,000 from her House and Senate campaign funds on luxury lodging, high-end transportation and private security in 2025.
Crockett spent $32,685.58 on luxury hotels alone. In the final quarter of 2025, as Crockett launched her Senate campaign, which she framed as a fight for the people against a "system of greed," she spent $11,841.27 on top-name hotels across the country. Hotels Crockett’s campaigns paid for in the last quarter of 2025 included the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Hotel Zaza, Kimpton and the five-star Los Angeles West Hollywood Edition.
Meanwhile, she spent a total of $11,738.60 on limousine and luxury car services in 2025. Her Senate and House filings show she spent $5,446.30 on Bay Area Lux Limos, based in California, and Detailed Drivers, a "white-glove" transportation service, in the last three months of the year.
SWALWELL IN THE HOT SEAT AFTER SPENDING OVER $200K IN CAMPAIGN CASH ON PERSONAL CHILDCARE: 'SLIPPERY SLOPE'
By far the largest expense was private security, despite Crockett repeatedly calling to defund the police. Crockett paid close to $80,000 for security in 2025. A significant portion, $30,079.34, of those security costs came in the final quarter of 2025.
In 2021, while Crockett was serving in the Texas House of Representatives, she said, "The Defund movement seeks to actually bring about healing and finally invest in our communities to make them safer, addressing the root causes of crime and by allowing the professionals to do their respective jobs. Defund is about finally being smart on crime. Defund is about lightening the load for our offices of all things they didn't sign up for. Defund is about finally being fiscally responsible when it comes to policing in this state."
Since entering Congress in 2023, Crockett has emerged as one of the foremost Democratic voices, especially when it comes to criticism of the Trump administration and other Republicans.
She took heat in early 2025 for several inflammatory comments, including calling for then-Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk to be "taken down" and mocking Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who is wheelchair bound, as "governor hot wheels." In both instances, Crockett …

  • Why you should not bet against Kamala Harris 2028 on prediction markets
    Why resist verification?

Welcome to Washington Secrets, your insider guide to who’s up and who’s down in the nation’s politics. Today we run through the odds that Kamala Harris will be the 2028 Democratic nominee for president, explain just why the Epstein files have created a political crisis in London, and bring you the newest thing in political comedy …

Former Vice President Kamala Harris had her shot and blew it. Why would anyone think a losing candidate, associated with such a dismal showing in 2024, would be worth backing in the 2028 presidential election?

So runs the conventional thinking around the Democratic primary. But Secrets loves nothing better than upending conventional thinking, particularly when there is money to be made.

New polling and analysis from the experts at J.L. Partners suggests that Harris (who has just overhauled her social media presence in a sign that she is preparing to run) is desperately underpriced on betting markets.

Last night, she was running at 6% on Kalshi, a prediction market that covers everything from the Super Bowl result to whether President Donald Trump will sign an executive order this week. The numbers put her behind Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), who led the field at 31%.

“For most of last year, she topped polls of Democratic primary voters and registered Democrats overall,” J.L. Partners wrote in its latest American Pulse newsletter. “For most of 2025, we were telling our clients this was a function of name recognition – it isn’t unusual for the former nominee to top the polls, especially of disengaged voters, because they are the most well-known.”

So far, so conventional. But the firm has begun polling a much tighter cohort of Democrat primary voters (based on their voting record and declaring themselves eight or above on a 10-point scale of likelihood to vote), using criteria that weed out the name recognition effect.

The results show Harris ahead of Newsom in the nomination race, 30% to 21%. Pete Buttigieg is third on seven points, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) on four, and Shapiro on four. Ocasio-Cortez comes in on three (tied with Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL)), which suggests that the firm has indeed selected out name recognition effects.

And there is another point. Harris’s support is built on black voters.

“Among white Democratic primary voters, she is tied with Gavin Newsom on 25 per cent apiece,” the newsletter …

  • This Left-Wing Group Wants UN Probe of Trump Over Minnesota Enforcement
    Who's accountable for the results?

One of America’s most well-known left-leaning legal groups has asked the United Nations to investigate the Trump administration, alleging human rights violations and racial discrimination by federal agents in Minnesota.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Minnesota sent an “urgent submission” to the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, or CERD, regarding federal immigration enforcement and treatment of protesters in the state.

The U.N. committee defines early warning measures as “aimed at preventing existing situations escalating into conflicts.” It defines urgent procedures as responding to “problems requiring immediate attention to prevent or limit the scale or number of serious violations.”

The ACLU request calls for the U.N. committee to use its early warning and urgent action procedures to probe alleged violations of international human rights obligations.

“The Trump administration’s egregious crackdown in Minnesota is not only flouting the Constitution but also United States international human rights obligations that prohibit the use of racial and ethnic profiling, extra-judicial killings and unlawful use of force against protesters and observers,” said Jamil Dakwar, director the Human Rights Program at the American Civil Liberties Union.

The ACLU’s submission argues that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have stopped and arrested residents of Minnesota based on race, ethnicity, and national origin, which is a violation of rights enshrined in the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, or ICERD.

The United States signed on to the convention in 1994.

“We are calling on the United Nations to hold the U.S. government accountable for its blatant violations of international law and to officially report on its disregard for their human rights treaty obligations,” Dakwar added.

Submission of the ACLU and ACLU MN to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination _ American Civil Liberties UnionDownload

Dakwar is a longstanding critic of President Donald Trump, posting on X, formerly Twitter, after the 2020 election, “No matter who wins, it’s deeply concerning that millions more Americans chose to support Trump since 2016 despite his clear record of mishandling the pandemic, endorsing racism, violence and misogyny, dehumanizing migrants, and defying scientists and public health experts.”

In May 2020, after Trump announced Antifa would be classified as a domestic terrorist group, Dakwar posted, “We repeatedly warned against Trump’s authoritarianism but this move is very dangerous and seriously threatens basic civil liberties and human rights.”

“He is promoting white supremacy agenda and abusing presidential powers,” Dakwar said.

In December, ICE increased deployment to the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, but began a drawdown of agents this week. Also, ICE agents fatally shot two anti-ICE agitators in matters under internal investigation.

The ACLU asserts federal agents ignored human rights in their enforcement activity, and have unfairly targeted Somali and Latino communities.

  • El Salvador’s Bukele says violent gang bangers are literal Satan worshippers, in sharp immigration warning
    Every delay has consequences.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele joined the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, warning attendees that violent gang members in his country have a documented history of worshiping Satan — and that some of those gang members have crossed into the U.S.
"Many people don't know that our enemy was not just the flesh and blood, but spiritual as well. The gangs didn't just murder, rape, extort. They also worship Satan," Bukele said on Thursday morning from the U.S. Capitol. "It's straight up. Literally. When we went to their homes to arrest them, we discovered altars that were used for satanic rituals."
"This is well documented. We put up the pictures, the videos right away. But for some reason, the global mainstream media didn't think it was worth it to cover it. But we know gangs in El Salvador were satanic and they worshiped Satan," he continued.
TRUMP SAYS CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS ‘MAKE HELLS ANGELS LOOK LIKE THE SWEETEST PEOPLE ON EARTH’
He warned the body of bipartisan lawmakers and business leaders: "Some of those gangs are here in the United States."
Bukele has previously warned that El Salvador’s security forces found alleged MS-13-linked "satanic" altars and ritual materials during raids.
Bukele is a Trump ally who struck a deal with the U.S. government in 2025 to accept hundreds of Venezuelan gang members, who were illegally living in the United States, into El Salvador's notoriously no-nonsense, high-security prison.
TRUMP DISCUSSES EXPANSION OF DRUG CARTEL CRACKDOWN, ISSUES GRIM WARNING TO IRAN
Bukele said crime has cratered in his country after snuffing out violent gang syndicates with prison time and law-and-order policies.
"El Salvador was the murder capital of the world. That was our nickname, murder capital of the world. The most dangerous place in the whole wide world. And now it's the safest country in the whole continent," he said Thursday.
BUKELE CHALLENGES HILLARY CLINTON TO TAKE EL SALVADOR'S ENTIRE PRISON POPULATION AFTER CRITICISM
President Donald Trump also addressed the prayer breakfast, reflecting on the administration's mission to protect religious liberty.
"They declared that all of us are made free and equal by the hand of our creator," Trump said of the Founding Fathers. "A lot of presidents refuse to say that.… Some major politicians refuse to say the word God. They don't want to say it. I say it, that we are endowed with our sacred rights to life, liberty, and not by government, but by God Almighty himself."

Since entering Congress in 2023, Crockett has emerged as one of the foremost Democratic voices, especially when it comes to criticism of the Trump administration and Republicans.
She took heat in early 2025 for several inflammatory comments, including calling for then-Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk to be "taken down" and mocking Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who is wheelchair bound, as "governor hot wheels." In both instances, Crockett said …

  • Zelenskyy reveals 55,000 Ukrainian death toll as peace talks continue
    This affects the entire country.

Ukrainian forces have lost over 55,000 people over the course of Russia's invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Thursday.
Zelenskyy made the announcement as U.S., Russian and Ukrainian negotiators meet in for a second day of talks Abu Dhabi this week. Zelenskyy also said a "large number of people" are missing in Ukraine.
The total is lower than an independent estimate from the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, which published a report last week which found that there have been nearly 500,000 total people killed and 1.5 million wounded or injured on both sides of the conflict. That includes an estimated 140,000 troops killed for Ukraine, compared to 325,000 for Russia.
RUSSIA FIRES NEW BALLISTIC MISSILE AT UKRAINE, KILLING AT LEAST FOUR
Russia carried out its largest ballistic missile attack of the war earlier this week, targeting Ukrainian infrastructure with more than 70 missiles and 450 attack drones, Zelenskyy said Tuesday.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said five people were injured and three more were rescued in Kharkiv after a drone strike caused a fire in a residential high-rise building.
The large-scale strikes came after President Donald Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to pause attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for one week, as freezing temperatures caused widespread power and heating outages.
COMBINED WAR CASUALTIES FOR RUSSIA AND UKRAINE COULD HIT 2 MILLION, NEW REPORT WARNS
Trump announced the week-long pause last Thursday, but Russia resumed its attacks several days before the period was set to expire, striking a maternity ward in Zaporizhzhia and a bus of Ukrainian miners, leaving 12 people dead.
Zelenskyy said the work of his negotiating team will be "adjusted accordingly," as his country prepared for this week's round of meetings in the United Arab Emirates with U.S. and Russian officials on Wednesday and Thursday.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff met with his Russian counterpart Kirill Dmitriev in Florida on Saturday and said the discussions were constructive, amid ongoing hostilities.

  • Out of office but back online: Harris rebrands ‘Kamala HQ’ for 2026 midterms amid 2028 buzz
    What's the administration thinking here?

In a move sure to spark more 2028 speculation, former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday relaunched her "Kamala HQ" social media presence used during her 2024 White House run as "an online organizing project for next-generation campaigning."
Harris announced that the account, which has over five million followers on TikTok and over one million on X, is now being called "Headquarters," and will be used as a "youth mobilization organization" ahead of this year's midterm elections, in a partnership with the left-leaning group, People for the American Way.
According to a release obtained by Fox News, it’s a move to "mobilize pro-fairness, pro-democracy, young people against far-right extremism." And Harris, in a video announcement, added, "I’m really excited about it. So stay engaged and I’ll see you out there."
The move by Harris — who lost to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election after replacing then-President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee three months earlier, after Biden ended his bid following a disastrous debate performance against Trump — comes amid mounting speculation that the former vice president is moving towards launching another White House bid.
HARRIS, NEWSOM, STIR 2028 SPECULATION AT MAJOR DEMOCRATIC PARTY MEETING
A Democratic strategist in the former vice president's political orbit told Fox News Digital that Harris "has always said that she’s going to continue to be involved and be a strong voice for Democrats as there’s so much to push back on from the damage Trump and Republicans are doing to this country. Her revived engagement on these platforms does that, and it adds another Democratic voice in the digisphere, which we need more of."
"Plus, it keeps her options open for the future," added the strategist, who asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely.
21 DEMOCRATS WHO MAY RUN FOR THE WHITE HOUSE IN 2028
Harris was mostly out of the headlines for a couple of months following the end of the Biden administration early last year. But she started stepping back into the political spotlight last spring and summer, including headlining Democratic National Committee fundraisers.
Her announcement last summer that she would pass on running for governor this year in her home state of California also increased speculation regarding a potential 2028 White House run.
And Harris, who hasn't closed any doors to running again, is currently in the middle of the second leg of her book tour around her best-selling memoir "107 Days," which was the length of her 2024 presidential campaign.

  • Here are the candidates in the Democratic primary to fill Mikie Sherrill’s House seat
    Why resist verification?

Democratic voters will have nearly a dozen candidates to choose from on Thursday’s ballot in the special election primary in New Jersey‘s 11th Congressional District.

There are 11 Democratic candidates duking it out in Thursday’s primary as they vie to see who will take on GOP candidate Joe Hathaway in the general election to fill Gov. Mikie Sherrill‘s (D-NJ) vacant seat in the House. Sherrill, the former 11th District representative, resigned from the House after she won her 2025 gubernatorial election, setting the stage for a special election to fill the remainder of her term that will expire in January 2027.

The candidates largely seen as the front-runners vying for the Democratic nomination are: former New Jersey Rep. Tom Malinowski; Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill; Analilia Mejia, former national political director for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT); and former New Jersey Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way.

Other candidates include Passaic County Commissioner John Bartlett; Morris Township Deputy Mayor Jeffrey Grayzel; Chatham Borough Councilman Justin Strickland; Cammie Croft, a staffer in former President Barack Obama’s White House; Army veteran Jack Beecher; comedian and lawyer J-L Cauvin; and Anna Lee Williams.

The primary election is Thursday, while the general special election will be held on April 16. The seat will then be up for grabs again during the regular midterm election cycle on Nov. 3, with the regular primaries being held on June 2.

    Tom Malinowski

Malinowski, the former representative for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, is taking another shot at running to represent New Jersey in the upper chamber. The former two-term congressman lost out to Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. (R-NJ) in 2022 after the Garden State redistricted. Per his campaign website, Malinowski is running again to “lower costs,” “protect democracy,” “fight corruption,” and “regulate technology.”

Malinowski notched an anti-establishment endorsement from Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) in December 2025, as Kim called him someone with a “heart of service” who “knows the House of Representatives, he knows Congress, he knows New Jersey, he knows how to be able to stand up against Donald Trump.”

    Analilia Mejia

Fighting from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, Mejia says she is running to “transform our economy so it works for working families, not just the wealthy and powerful” and to “stop authoritarianism, reform the courts, and protect our democracy.”
