  • Warren and Bessent erupt into shouting match over Trump's Warsh joke
    What's the endgame here?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., sparred with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday during a Senate Banking Committee hearing over a joke President Donald Trump made about Federal Reserve nominee Kevin Warsh.
Warren, the panel's ranking member, asked Bessent about comments Trump made over the weekend, when he joked — or appeared to joke — about suing Warsh if he failed to lower the national interest rate. The question triggered a shouting match between the two.
CAN YOU SHUT HIM UP?: WATERS AND TREASURY'S BESSENT CLASH OVER TRUMP'S ECONOMIC AGENDA
Warren: This one should be an easy one. Mr. Secretary, can you commit right here and now that Trump’s Fed nominee, Kevin Warsh, will not be sued, will not be investigated by the Department of Justice, if he doesn’t cut interest rates exactly the way Donald Trump wants?
Bessent: That’s up to the president. Can you commit that you will—
Warren: I’m sorry? You can't say that he won't be sued if he doesn't drop interest rates?
Bessent: Can you commit that you will not hold up—
Warren: And he won’t be criminally investigated?
Bessent: The president also made a joke about you — one I won’t repeat.
Warren: That was supposed to be a softball. That was the easy one. If this was a joke, why not just say so?
Bessent: It was a joke, and he made a joke about you, too, Senator Warren. It got a lot of laughs, it got a lot of laughs. I don't know if you want to respond to that.
Warren: I do want to respond, I think the American people are laughing, they are the ones that are struggling.
Bessent: What I can tell you is that Mr. Warsh is highly qualified. And why don't you tell the nation what you told me — that you held up Chair Powell’s nomination.
TRUMP’S ECONOMIC WINS ARE REAL — NOW HE NEEDS TO CONVINCE THE COUNTRY
Last week, Trump nominated Warsh to lead the world's most powerful central bank. If confirmed by the Senate, Warsh would assume one of the most powerful positions in U.S. economic policymaking, with direct influence over interest rate decisions and the central bank’s battle against inflation.
Warsh’s potential ascension to the top spot at the Fed comes as Trump has often made current Fed chair Jerome Powell a lightning rod for economic criticism, with tensions between the two deteriorating over interest rate decisions and broader monetary policy.
Powell is currently under criminal investigation over the accuracy of his congressional testimony regarding the Federal Reserve’s ongoing renovation.

  • Pressley says 'nothing to see here' when asked about her dramatic multimillion-dollar wealth jump in office
    Same show, different day.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., dodged questions about her climbing wealth on Wednesday when approached about how she accumulated value from a set of rental properties.
"Sir, I submit a financial disclosure, just like everybody else. There's nothing to see here," Pressley told Fox News.
Her office did not respond to additional requests for comment.
Pressley’s net worth is the latest among progressives in the House of Representatives to come under scrutiny for drastically increasing since being elected to office. Other figures who have attracted national focus include Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.
TRUMP CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO ILHAN OMAR’S WEALTH, SAYS IT SHOULD START 'NOW'
Despite a climbing net worth, Pressley has also accumulated sizable debt worth up to $9 million, according to records.
According to financial disclosures, Pressley’s worth went from $12,500 before she was elected in 2018 to up to $8 million in 2024.
Her congressional salary is just $174,000.
Her disclosure reports reveal that most of her current wealth comes from two sources.
Her husband’s management consulting firm in Boston, Conan Harris & Associates, brought in between $100,000-$1,000,000 in 2024. The company was founded in 2019 — the year Pressley began her time in office.
According to the company’s website, Conan Harris, Pressley’s husband, used to work for Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. There, he earned $92,000, according to reports from 2018.
One year after launching his venture in 2019, Harris earned a reported $148,000 through the firm.
The majority of Pressley’s wealth, however, is in real estate.
Four rental properties in Mattapan, Boston and Edgartown, Mass., brought in a combined revenue between $95,000 and $250,000 last year.

One more, purchased in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., reported an income of between $50,000 and $100,000. Pressley bought that property in 2024.
Ownership of the properties themselves has also added to Pressley’s wealth. In total, Pressley’s Massachusetts rentals combined for a net worth of between $2.5 million and $8 million.
According to her first reports submitted in 2018, Pressley began her time in Congress with three major debt obligations that have only grown.
She owed between $610,000 and $1.2 million from two mortgages and a repayment plan for taxes issued by the IRS.
In her most recent reporting, Pressley reported between $3.25 million and $9 million in debt. All of her loans, made through Chase Bank, Bluestone Bank, Wells Fargo, United Wholesale Mortgage and Crowd …

  • Out of office but back online: Harris rebrands Kamala HQ for 2026 midterms amid 2028 buzz
    What's the administration thinking here?

In a move sure to spark more 2028 speculation, former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday relaunched her Kamala HQ social media presence used during her 2024 White House run as "an online organizing project for next-generation campaigning."
Harris announced that the account, which has over 5 million followers on TikTok and over 1 million on X, is now being called Headquarters, and will be used as a "youth mobilization organization" ahead of this year's midterm elections, in a partnership with the left-leaning group People for the American Way.
According to a release obtained by Fox News, it’s a move to "mobilize pro-fairness, pro-democracy, young people against far-right extremism." And Harris, in a video announcement, added, "I’m really excited about it. So, stay engaged and I’ll see you out there."
The move by Harris, who lost to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election after replacing Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee, comes amid mounting speculation that the former vice president is moving toward launching another White House bid.
HARRIS, NEWSOM, STIR 2028 SPECULATION AT MAJOR DEMOCRATIC PARTY MEETING
A Democratic strategist in the former vice president's political orbit told Fox News Digital Harris "has always said that she’s going to continue to be involved and be a strong voice for Democrats as there’s so much to push back on from the damage Trump and Republicans are doing to this country. Her revived engagement on these platforms does that, and it adds another Democratic voice in the digisphere, which we need more of.
"Plus, it keeps her options open for the future," added the strategist, who asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely.
21 DEMOCRATS WHO MAY RUN FOR THE WHITE HOUSE IN 2028
Harris was mostly out of the headlines for a couple of months after the end of the Biden administration early last year. But she started stepping back into the political spotlight last spring and summer, including headlining Democratic National Committee fundraisers.
Her announcement last summer that she would pass on running for governor this year in her home state of California also increased speculation regarding a potential 2028 White House run.
And Harris, who hasn't closed any doors to running again, is in the middle of the second leg of her book tour for her bestselling memoir "107 Days," which was the length of her 2024 presidential campaign.

  • Sweeping bill to crush sanctuary cities, protect ICE agents unveiled in Senate
    Who's accountable for the results?

FIRST ON FOX: A Senate Republican wants to kneecap sanctuary cities and provide more stringent protections for federal agents in a sweeping package designed to push back against disruptions to the Trump administration’s immigration operations.
Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., plans to introduce his Protect America Act, a colossal legislative package that would punish sanctuary cities, enhance penalties for illegal entry and reentry, boost protections for federal agents, and defund "corrupt" nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), or nonprofits.
The goal of the package is to cut into the unrest simmering in cities across the country where the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are operating.
SENATOR CALLS OUT ‘GRASSROOTS’ ANTI-ICE GROUPS, URGES DOJ INVESTIGATION INTO ‘COORDINATED NATIONAL OPERATION'
Schmitt’s legislation comes as anti-ICE protests continue around the country, most notably in Minneapolis, where agitators have clashed with federal agents, resulting in the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good.
"This environment demands action," Schmitt said in a statement. "The Protect America Act is a comprehensive, four-part legislative response designed to address the root causes of disorder, restore lawful enforcement authority, protect federal officers from coordinated interference and violence, and prevent the abuse of nonprofit status to shield or support criminal activity."
SCHUMER, JEFFRIES MEND RIFT, PRESENT UNITED FRONT ON DHS REFORMS AS DEADLINE NEARS
The package would condition federal funding to sanctuary cities based on cooperation with ICE and federal law enforcement. Cities that don’t comply would lose their funding completely.
It would also require that jails and detention centers coordinate with ICE to share the identity, immigration status and release timing for detainees, allow people to sue for civil liabilities if a "removable alien" is knowingly released within a sanctuary city and commits a serious crime, and halt new foreign student visas until jurisdictions comply with federal immigration law.
In a bid to bolster protections for federal agents, the package would close loopholes that allow people to use whistles or other devices to interfere with officers' communications, impose penalties of up to five years in prison for people who obstruct federal agents’ duties, ensure that the First Amendment protections explicitly state that the "act does not prohibit expressive content or lawful expressive conduct," and make assaulting a federal agent a federal criminal offense.

  • EXCLUSIVE: House to Probe Sharia Law During Hearing
    This is performative politics again.

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL — The House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government of the will hold a hearing on Feb. 10 to uncover how sharia law is “contrary to America’s founding principles” and “may violate federal law and the Constitution,” the Daily Signal has learned.

At the hearing, titled “Sharia-Free America: Why Political Islam & Sharia Law are Incompatible with the U.S. Constitution,” witnesses and members will discuss “where, why, and how Islamic extremists are attempting to establish Sharia-based institutions in the U.S.” a statement provided to The Daily Signal claimed.

Additionally, the hearing will discuss current proposed legislative reforms that would protect Americans from efforts to establish alternative, sharia-based institutions.

“Most Americans are completely unaware that Sharia law is insidiously trying to take over our communities and undermine our Constitution and way of life,” subcommittee Chairman Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, told The Daily Signal. “In my home state of Texas, Dallas has become ground zero for the Islamification of America and there are more mosques being built in Texas than in any other state in the union.”

“If we are not careful, America will fall just like what we’re seeing happen in London or Paris,” Roy added. “This hearing, which I am proud to lead, is an important first step in sounding the alarm to the American people about the threat Sharia law poses to America.”

Roy recently co-founded the Sharia Free America Caucus in Congress.

One of the focuses of the hearing will include the East Plano Islamic Compound, or EPIC City for short.

In April of 2025, researchers with the nonprofit Rise Align Ignite Reclaim, or RAIR for short, claimed the compound was “a deliberate blueprint for a self-contained Islamic community, built around Sharia principles and insulated from public oversight.”

The organization’s report drew the attention of lawmakers like Roy and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

“My constituents in Texas are constantly expressing their concern and asking what can be done about the rise of mass Islamic immigration in north Texas, including developments like the East Plano Islamic Center,” Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, a member of the subcommittee, said.

“If people come to America in search of a better life, they need to be prepared to assimilate to our culture, not impose third world ideals into our society,” Gill added.

  • Trump Orders Faster Rebuilding for LA Wildfire Victims, Cuts Through Permitting Delays
This feels like a quiet policy shift.

For families who lost everything in last year’s wildfires, the damage did not end when the flames died out. More than a year later, many are still unable to rebuild, stalled by local permitting delays that have slowed recovery across parts of Los Angeles.

Amid growing frustration over rebuilding delays, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, U.S. Army Civil Works Assistant Secretary Adam Telle, and Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler gathered at a roundtable press conference with local residents and business owners in the Pacific Palisades to address efforts to rebuild the community.

After the conference, the officials visited homes destroyed by the wildfires.

Although the Trump administration has shown a rapid response to the destruction, residents are experiencing frustrating roadblocks to rebuilding.

“Since Day One, President Trump has surged billions in resources to support the Los Angeles wildfire recovery effort, including $3.2 billion across 12,000 SBA loans to help residents rebuild,” said Loeffler in a statement. “One year later, thousands of families and small business owners are now suffering from a second disaster, which is the local permitting process that has prevented them from accessing these funds to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.”

In order to expedite restoring the affected communities, Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 23, 2026, directing that “federally funded reconstruction projects for homes and businesses in the wildfire-impacted neighborhoods of the Pacific Palisades and Eaton Canyon areas proceed with the maximum speed consistent with public safety, and that Federal assistance not be frustrated by unnecessary, duplicative, or obstructive permitting requirements that prevent families and businesses from rebuilding.”

Trump appointed Zeldin to help lead this effort and break through local permitting delays.

The EPA head issued the following statement: “Many LA residents lost everything in these fires. It’s well past time to clear any remaining hurdles that have been adding to an already painful experience. I look forward to working with Mayor [Karen] Bass and Supervisor [Kathryn] Barger to delivering the much-needed relief the citizens of Los Angeles have been calling for.”

Under the executive order, the SBA has “issued a new rule that will allow disaster borrowers to self-certify compliance with substantive state and local rebuilding requirements when they have waited 60 or more days for their permits or other approvals,” according to the EPA, allowing some wildfire survivors to begin rebuilding without waiting for prolonged local permit approval.

A majority of voters say Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem should be removed from her job, according to a new national poll.
Fifty-eight percent of those questioned in a Quinnipiac University survey in the field from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 said it's time for Noem to go, with 34% saying she should remain on the job.
The survey was conducted amid President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration and in the wake of two fatal shootings by federal agents of U.S. citizens in Minnesota who were opposing the administration's aggressive deportation efforts.
In the immediate aftermath of the second shooting last month of Alex Pretti, who at the time was legally armed with a handgun, Noem claimed Pretti was threatening federal agents and labeled his actions "domestic terrorism."
LEAVITT SAYS TRUMP WILL NOT ‘WAVER’ ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN DESPITE DEMOCRATIC BACKLASH
But videos of the shooting depicted Pretti, an ICU nurse at a VA Hospital, appearing to attend to a woman whom agents had knocked down when he was sprayed with an irritant, pushed to the ground and beaten. On the ground, bystanders said he was brandishing a cell phone rather than his weapon, and an agent was seen pulling Pretti's gun from his waistband before other agents fired several shots and killed him.
The Trump administration has faced mounting criticism and political backlash, with some top Democrats in Congress and at least two Republican senators — Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — calling on Noem to be removed.
But Trump is standing by Noem, saying in a social media post last Friday that she "has done a really GREAT JOB!"
And on Thursday, during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, Trump reiterated that he's not removing Noem.
"Why would I do that? We have the strongest border in the history of our country. We have the best crime numbers we've ever had going back to the year 1900. That's 125 years. We have the lowest crime numbers," the president emphasized.
DHS SECRETARY KRISTI NOEM ADDRESSES CALLS FOR HER FIRING, NEW ALEX PRETTI VIDEO
Noem, in an interview last week on Fox News' "Hannity," argued that "radicals" are behind the calls for her to be fired.
"These radicals are attacking me, but I'm just doing my job. I'm following the law, enforcing the laws like President Trump promised that he would do to keep people safe in this country," she told Fox News' host Sean Hannity.

  • House GOP moves to require proof of citizenship, photo ID to vote in federal election
Are they actually going to vote on something real?

House GOP leaders are forging ahead on legislation aimed at imposing new federal guardrails to ensure only U.S. citizens vote in national elections.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., confirmed to Fox News Digital that the chamber would vote on the SAVE America Act introduced by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, next week.
It comes after conservatives threatened to extend the partial government shutdown earlier this week if the legislation was not included in Congress' bipartisan funding bills. But those lawmakers backed off their demands after getting assurances from the White House that the Senate would give the bill serious consideration.
SENATE REPUBLICANS PUSH TO DEPORT, DENATURALIZE FRAUDSTERS AMID MINNESOTA SCANDAL
The House's vote next week hikes the growing pressure on the Senate to take up the bill, where it will face long odds of passing. Its backers are hoping a little-known maneuver called a "standing filibuster" will be key to breaking through Democratic opposition, however.
"These are common-sense measures that protect American voters," Scalise explained to Fox News Digital on Thursday.
"Only Democrats in Congress could oppose these basic requirements that prevent voter fraud, and that’s because they want illegal aliens to vote in our elections. Why else would they support open borders, oppose deporting illegal aliens, and oppose election security like picture ID?"
The SAVE America Act is an updated version of Roy's Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which passed the House in April 2025 but was never taken up in the Senate.
Whereas the SAVE Act would create a new federal proof of citizenship mandate in the voter registration process and impose requirements for states to keep their rolls clear of ineligible voters, the updated bill would also require photo ID to vote in any federal elections.
"It's all the same concept, right? I mean, you want citizenship, and then you want to guarantee that the person voting is the person voting. Photo ID is, I think, a critically important element to that, and we want to require that for federal elections," Roy told Fox News Digital on Thursday.
SCHUMER FACES BACKLASH AFTER CALLING SAVE ACT 'JIM CROW' DESPITE PREVIOUS ALLEGATION FALLING FLAT
The bill is expected to easily pass the House — the original SAVE Act got support from all Republicans and four Democrats — but its survival in the Senate is more complicated.
Most legislation needs 60 votes to break through a filibuster, meaning at least seven Democrats will need to vote with Republicans to advance the bill.
